Terms of Service
Last updated: April 16, 2026 — Please read before using our service.
Last updated: April 2025 · Effective immediately upon use of the service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of TrustMonitor at trustmonitor.io ("the Service"). By using the Service in any way — including browsing check results, submitting reviews, or calling the API — you agree to these Terms in full. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. What the Service Is
TrustMonitor is an automated domain analysis tool. It collects publicly available information about internet domains — SSL certificate records, WHOIS registration data, DNS records, third-party threat intelligence — and produces a composite trust score. All results are generated by software algorithms, not by human analysts.
The Service is provided for informational purposes only.
2. Disclaimer of Warranties
Trust scores are produced automatically from third-party data sources. They represent a technical assessment at a point in time and carry no warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose.
- A domain with a high trust score may still be operated by dishonest individuals.
- A domain with a low trust score may be a legitimate, newly registered business.
- Third-party data providers (VirusTotal, Google Safe Browsing, WHOIS registries) may themselves contain errors, gaps, or outdated information.
- Cached results may not reflect changes made to a domain after the last check date.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
3. Not Professional Advice
Nothing on TrustMonitor constitutes legal advice, financial advice, cybersecurity consulting, or fraud-prevention guidance. Do not rely solely on our trust score when deciding whether to share sensitive personal information, complete a financial transaction, or enter a business agreement. Always conduct your own due diligence.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service in violation of any applicable law or regulation
- Automate requests in a way that circumvents, bypasses, or overwhelms our rate limits
- Scrape, mirror, copy, or redistribute our data in bulk without prior written permission
- Submit false scam reports or fabricated reviews to damage the reputation of a domain
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, manipulate, or game the trust score algorithm
- Use the Service to harass, defame, or make false claims about specific businesses or individuals
- Interfere with the infrastructure, servers, or security of the Service
Violation of acceptable use may result in immediate and permanent termination of your access without notice.
5. Rate Limits and Fair Use
The free Service enforces rate limits per IP address to ensure fair availability for all users. Cached results (domains previously checked) are returned without counting toward your rate limit. Live checks — first-time checks or force-refreshes — count against your limit. If you require higher-volume access, contact us to discuss options.
6. User Submissions (Reviews and Reports)
When you submit a review or scam report:
- You confirm that your submission is truthful, based on your genuine first-hand experience.
- You grant TrustMonitor a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display and moderate your submission.
- We reserve the right to remove, edit, or hide any submission that is false, abusive, spam, or in violation of these Terms — without notice.
- Submitting false reports to harm a competitor or an innocent business may expose you to civil or criminal liability under applicable defamation and fraud laws.
7. API Usage
The free API endpoints (/api/check and /api/status) are subject to all of these Terms plus the rate limits documented on the API documentation page. If you integrate TrustMonitor API results into a product or service you distribute, you must provide visible attribution to TrustMonitor (e.g., "Powered by TrustMonitor").
Commercial resale of API results without a separate written agreement is not permitted.
8. Third-Party Data and Links
TrustMonitor displays data sourced from third-party providers. We are not responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, or completeness of that data. External links on the Service are provided for convenience — we do not endorse those websites or their content.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, TrustMonitor and its operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of — or inability to use — the Service. This includes, without limitation, financial losses resulting from decisions made based on trust score results.
10. Intellectual Property
The TrustMonitor name, logo, trust score methodology, and the presentation and compilation of check results are the property of TrustMonitor. Domain names, WHOIS data, and DNS records are public information and belong to their respective registrants and registries.
11. Modifications to the Service and Terms
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without notice. We may also update these Terms at any time — the "Last updated" date will reflect changes. Continued use of the Service after updated Terms are posted constitutes acceptance.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by applicable law. Any dispute arising from these Terms should first be addressed through good-faith direct communication with us. We prefer to resolve issues without litigation.
